Andrew, Susan Isabel

June 27, 1959 - September 10, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved family member Susan Isabel Andrew.  Susan passed away peacefully on September 10, 2023, in Victoria British Columbia.

Susan was born on June 27, 1959 in St. John, New Brunswick, and was the youngest of five children. She was the devoted daughter of Isabel and Frank Andrew and loving younger sister to Rosemary Del Degan, all of whom predeceased her.

Susan will be deeply missed by brothers Bill (Denise), Frank (SanSan), John (Sue) and brother-in-law Aldo Del Degan as well as by nieces and a nephew, Jessica (John), Marc (Jenia), Marion (Jeff), Kaitlyn (Kyle), Laura (Tyler) and Mary (Matt).  Susan also cherished her great nieces and nephews, Isabel and William, Nicholas and Max, Rooney, Cooper and Piper.

Susan was devoted to family values and traditions. She cared about her family and was always there to provide moral support during difficult times. She loved her parents dearly; she was a true daughter. They instilled in her courage, faithfulness, love and understanding. She formed bonds that connected all her siblings and her family will miss her greatly.

Susan spent most of her adult years living and working in Banff, Alberta. There she formed lasting friendships with countless people. She was known in the Bow Valley for many years as Magpie Sue after working for the Magpie and Stump Restaurant as a cook in the early 80’s and later becoming their general manager.  She was also employed at Wild Bill’s, the Grizzly House, Johnny Rays, The Cake Company and Mountain Business Systems.  She worked for a short time at Club Med in St. Lucia.  She was well-known and respected by many in the small Banff Mountain town.

Though Susan loved the mountains, more recently she decided to try something different and in 2016, she moved to Victoria, British Columbia.  After working in some shorter-term employment, she was hired by BC Ferries.  She loved her work there, was highly regarded by staff and admin, became a trainer and kept new hires under her wing.  Folks liked her gregarious nature and said that she was fun.

Susan’s passing is a great shock to all who knew her.  Following her wishes to be cremated, she will be buried in Banff with a Celebration of Life to be held at the Legion on November 19, 2023.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion No. 26 Col. Moore Branch in Banff Alberta.
