Canmore Eagles lose on home ice, series in Whitecourt's favour

The series is back in Whitecourt Wolverines favour after the Canmore Eagles lost 5-2 on home ice in Game 3 on Tuesday (April 2).

CANMORE – The series is back in Whitecourt Wolverines favour after the Canmore Eagles lost 5-2 on home ice in Game 3 on Tuesday (April 2).

The Wolverines hold a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-seven series in the Alberta Junior Hockey League playoffs.

Whitecourt opened the game with a goal in the first few minutes of the first, which was answered back by Rhett Dekowny on an unassisted goal midway through the first period.

After three more goals from the Wolverines going into the third, Canmore rookie Stefan Serediak scored with the help of Brody Mortensen and Cohen Daoust.

Goalie Matthew Malin had 30 shots fired at him, including two penalty shots but only one going in. Canmore had 30 shots on the Wolverines netminder Nicholas Avakyan.

The Eagles went 0-for-3 on the power play and the Wolverines were 1-for-4.

The Eagles are back on home ice tonight (April 3) at 7 p.m. for Game 4 of the best-of-seven series. Game 5 is Friday in Whitecourt and if necessary, Game 6 would be in Canmore Sunday at 5 p.m.
