Black bear bluff charges cyclist in Kananaskis Country

The bear advisory for the Canyon Creek Road and surrounding area was put in place on Thursday (May 16) and will remain in effect until further notice.

KANANASKIS –  A black bear charged a cyclist at Canyon Creek Road off the Ing’s Mine trailhead in Kananaskis Country, prompting a warning for the area.

The advisory for the Canyon Creek Road and surrounding area was put in place on Thursday (May 16) and will remain in effect until further notice.

“A black bear bluff charge was reported to conservation officers,” according to the advisory by Alberta Parks.

According to Bow Valley WildSmart, it was a cyclist that was bluff-charged.

To avoid a surprise encounter with a bear, Alberta Parks reminds people to make plenty of noise and travel in groups; be aware of surroundings by looking and listening for bears and their signs; and keep pets on a leash.

Outdoor enthusiasts are also reminded to carry bear spray, to make sure it’s easily accessible, and to know how to use it.
