Travellers are being advised the Axe the Tax protest at a rest stop along Highway 2 near Lacombe could affect the flow of traffic on the highway over the Victoria Day long weekend.

"RCMP advise that often times these protests have included vehicles conducting a “slow roll” consisting of a small convoy of vehicles driving below the speed limit on the highways. Motorist are advised to expect delays or take alternates routes," RCMP said in a release issued Friday, May 17.

Some Axe the Tax protesters moved on Monday, April 22 from the Highway 1 protest area south of Cochrane to the new location on the side of Highway 2 near Lacombe.

In a Thursday update, protesters said a sign will be erected along the highway near the rest stop over the weekend acknowledging an event is nearby.

Protesters are planning a weekend of camping, live bands, a pig roast and vendors at the rest stop.
