An Okotoks man has been charged after a significant amount of cocaine and cash were found during property searches in Calgary.

An Okotoks man is one of four people charged in relation to a search that uncovered 338 grams of cocaine, worth $33,000.

According to a press release from the Alberta Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT), search warrants were executed Sept. 22 in the Calgary communities of Auburn Bay and Eau Claire, with the assistance of Calgary Police. Two vehicles were also searched.

Alongside the drug stash, $14,000 cash was also seized.

Geoffrey Scott, 50, from Okotoks, Wade Lieu, 38, from Calgary, Mark Hua, 32, from Calgary and Huy Nhan, 42, from Calgary were all subsequently arrested and charged with drug-related offences.

The arrests came following an investigation into suspected drug trafficking that had taken place at the Calgary Stampede in July. ALERT alleges the suspects sold cocaine at the festival.

“Thanks to information provided and developed criminal intelligence, ALERT was able to identify and implicate several suspects involved in drug trafficking at the Stampede," said ALERT Calgary Staff Sgt. Jeff Ringelberg.

"ALERT was happy to work hand-in-hand with our partners at the Calgary Police Service to target those that jeopardize this safe, family-friendly event."

Members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity in their community can call local police or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Crime Stoppers is always anonymous.
