Wyatt Thunder has been charged with second degree murder following the March 22 death of Kelsey Thunder.

ATHABASCA - An Athabasca man is in custody, charged with second degree murder in the death of a 23-year-old Kelsey Thunder.

Twenty-six year old Wyatt Thunder was arrested and charged March 22, after RCMP responded to the Cornwall Apartments on the east side of Athabasca at 3210 Cornwall Dr. at 3:55 a.m. and determined the victim was deceased.

"The death was deemed suspicious and the RCMP Major Crimes Unit was deployed to take carriage of the investigation," RCMP said in a media release March 25.

A family member, who did not want to be identified, stated March 24 they believe foul play was involved, which has now been confirmed by authorities.

A source inside the complex said a couple with three young children has lived in the two-storey townhouse for nearly two months.

The family member was unable to confirm whether any children were in the home at the time, but did relay that the children are now with their grandmother.

Wyatt Thunder was remanded into custody following a judicial interim release hearing and is scheduled to be in court in Fort Saskatchewan March 25.

As the case is now before the courts, RCMP will be making no further comment.
