The St. Albert RCMP department made two arrests early Wednesday morning after a vehicle was stolen in North Ridge, only to later collide with another stolen vehicle on St. Albert Trail near the city limits.

“On Dec. 6, 2023 at 12:59 a.m., St Albert RCMP received a report of a theft of a vehicle from Vandelor Road,” Cpl. Troy Savinkoff with the RCMP's K Division said in an email. “RCMP quickly learned that a Subaru Impreza was stolen and it appeared that a second vehicle, a white GMC truck, was involved.”

“A short time later, patrolling St. Albert officers located both vehicles driving south on St. Albert Trail at a high rate of speed. As the St. Albert RCMP car turned around they observed the offending vehicles in the distance collide with one another and both [came] to a stop.”

Savinkoff said the suspect driving the stolen Subaru was arrested immediately, while the driver of the white GMC truck, which was later determined to be stolen out of Spruce Grove earlier this month, was arrested later after an Edmonton Police Service helicopter located the suspect.

“Both suspects are currently in custody awaiting Judicial Interim Release hearings,” Savinkoff said, adding that RCMP will be able to say what charges are pending after the interim release hearings.
