If I understand correctly, the recent updated design phase of Railway Avenue states that when the design is approved and finished there could be 1,000 vehicles per day over the current peak of 17,000.

While the aim of this initiative is to encourage walking and cycling, as per an earlier letter in the Outlook, this could be simply accomplished by upgrading the pathway extending behind Elevation Place without spending millions on Railway Avenue.

As presented, the proposed Railway Avenue modifications appear to have, at best, marginal benefit. At a time when Canmore citizens are paying record high property taxes, one would like to see a benefit less cost analysis for this and all material Town projects.

Such analysis must factor in disruption to Canmore businesses during construction. This project should be on the backburner until it can be better justified.
