As Ron Ulrich, Canmore’s Museum executive director, pointed out in the Feb. 2 edition of the Outlook, we need to preserve our coal mining history and the Miners’ Union Hall is part of that history.

On July 12, 2008, a bronze statue of a coal miner was unveiled on Main Street next to the Canmore Hotel and many visitors have their photos taken standing by the statue.

Many of us are part of that history.

On market days, vendors displayed their wares, while friends chatted over a coffee and snacks and some evenings there were dances. I remember dancing with former MLA Gordon Taylor, a member of the Alberta Legislative Assembly.

See you at the Canmore Museum at 7 p.m. on Feb. 9 to help preserve Canmore’s history.

Eileen Patterson,

Canmore
