I noticed the advertisement in the March 2 Outlook regarding the so-called affordability payments and then received a flyer in the mail showing all of the things the UCP government is supposedly doing to help out struggling Albertans. What really struck me is that all of this so-called help I am getting is actually being paid for by me as it is all taxpayer-funded.

I do not see anything that addresses the obscene profits that are being made by, in particular, the oil and gas companies, the energy companies, and the big grocery companies. If something was to be done to reign in these excessive profits we would not need all of these different subsidies that we as taxpayers are actually funding ourselves.

So what this looks like to me is a scam whereby I am paying myself subsidies to help the UCP look good as we approach the election. Another way of looking at it is that we are paying double for corporate greed, once at the check-out and then again through our taxes when we pay for the subsidies that are supposed to help us deal with these extremely high prices.

I also question all of the enthusiasm for funding healthcare and education all of a sudden when the UCP have spent the last five years trying to cut funding to both. Must be an election coming up.
