National Indigenous Peoples Day (June 21) events across the Bow Valley
Banff:
- Virtual Market featuring Indigenous artwork, where audience members can engage with vendors and artists begins at noon.
- A collection of Indigenous art will be displayed throughout the gallery for the week of June 21.
- A new educational video about cultural appropriation with a focus on Indigenous culture will be released on June 21, with contributions from Fort Calgary and Dreamspeakers and Native Diva Creations.
- Buddy Wesley's virtual Stoney Nakoda History and Basic Language runs Mondays until July 5 (including on June 21).
Canmore:
Civic Centre
- The raising of the Treaty 7 flag at the Civic Centre will take place at 2 p.m. followed by a smudge, blessing, and two honour songs performed by Treaty 7 Elders.
- Learn about Stoney Nakoda culture with in-person and at-home workshops at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 4 p.m.
Stoney Nakoda:
Kananaskis Bearspaw Farmers Market
- From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with guest speakers and cultural entertainment at the Kananaskis Bearspaw Travel Centre parking lot.

- Decolonizing the Narrative – prominent Indigenous art creators discuss their practices in this monthly online conversation led by Reneltta Arluk, Director of Indigenous Arts at Banff Centre.
- Banff Centre Indigenous Artists playlist.
- On June 18 and 24 – Stories of Canmore Learning Series: These Mountains are Our Sacred Places – featuring readings and discussions by Reverend John Snow Jr., Tony Snow and Bill Snow.
Carter-Ryan Gallery (Banff and Canmore)
- The galleries are home to the work of Indigenous visual artist, Jason Carter.
Kananaskis Bearspaw Farmers Market
- Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kananaskis Bearspaw Travel Centre parking lot.
Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies
- Temporary mural of Sitting Wind and the Cultural Trade Route installed on the Whyte grounds celebrating Indigenous culture and relationships in the Bow Valley.
- Seasonal Walks and Tea with Phillomene and Tracey Stevens returns in July.
- The haunted house near the Stoney Nakoda casino returns in October, 2021.
