PATRICIA GARVEY

It is with great sadness that we announce Pat’s passing on Saturday, December 5, 2020 in Canmore, AB. Pat was born April 14, 1955 in Norquay, SK to Mike and Jean Markewich, and was later raised in Regina. She was a hard worker, and family was her primary focus from a young age after losing her own mother in childhood. She helped to raise her younger brothers, while maintaining honours throughout school. She graduated from Archbishop MC O’Neill High School as Valedictorian.

Pat married the love of her life, Randy Garvey in 1975. Randy found a woman, stronger than anyone he knew. She shared his dreams, and later his home. In 1979, they welcomed their son Jason into the world. Three years later, they completed their family with the birth of their daughter, Jillian. Pat later went back to school and became a Dental Hygienist. She moved with her family to Edmonton in 1998 when Randy had a new job opportunity.

Every year they spent more and more time in the mountains: skiing, golfing, hiking, biking, and spending time outdoors with friends and family. After retirement they moved to Canmore permanently, and started to spend time as snowbirds in Palm Desert. In 2019, Pat became a Grandma to a beautiful little girl, Olivia Jean, whom she loved dearly. Pat and Randy loved to be outdoors, and went on many adventures in the mountains and worldwide. Pat enjoyed being active with Randy, but it was not until she started golfing that she found her true passion. She was a natural, but even more importantly, it brought many wonderful new friends into her life.

Pat was an incredibly kind, caring, and compassionate person. Always ready to have a good time, and share a gin and tonic, but never wanting to be the center of attention. She had many special friends that she created countless memories with, and that were a great source of comfort over her journey this past year. Her Faith gave her comfort and provided her a quiet strength during her quick but hard-fought battle. She was truly our warrior.

“When I look into your eyes I know that it’s true,

God must have spent a little more time on you.”

Predeceased by her loving parents, Mike and Jean. Pat is survived, and will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Randy; children, Jason (Kara), and Jillian (Michael) McLaren; and granddaughter, Olivia. She is also survived by her brothers, Randy (Eileen) Markewich, Greg (Laura) Markewich, and Len (Anna) Markewich; sister-in-law, Mitzi (Vic) Krasilowez; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

A Private Divine Liturgy will be celebrated with immediate family. Celebrations of Life with family and friends will be held in Canmore and Regina at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s memory may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
