We are saddened to announce the passing of Milan, on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at the age of 92 years. Milan passed peacefully, surrounded by family, in Banff, Alberta. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Josephine Svetek (nee: INTIHAR); daughter Wanda Svetek Pollock; son-in-law, Graham Pollock; granddaughter, Tess Pollock, all residing in Banff. Son, Edward Svetek; daughter-in-law, Lesley Seager; granddaughters, Cassidy, Tristyn and Ainsley Svetek, of Burlington, Ontario. Sisters, Matilda Rak (late Miro), Anica Velikonja (Frank) and their families, of Toronto; sister-in-law, Mili Vuksinic (late Darko), and family, of Adelaide, Australia. Predeceased by his parents, Ana and Anton, in Toronto; his brother Joseph (late Minka), in Sostro, Slovenia; and his brother-in-law, Alojzi Intihar, in Toronto. Milan was born in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and immigrated to Toronto in 1959. He studied to become a Machinist in Ljubljana and for the majority of his career worked at General Motors of Canada. He had a passion for organic farming and took great pleasure in sharing whatever he produced with friends and family. He was an avid reader and beekeeper, often sitting by his hives, enjoying all aspects of nature with a book in hand. Milan enjoyed the outdoors; hunting and fishing were favoured pastimes. He flooded ice rinks on his property in Brooklin, and never missed a hockey game or practice of his son, Edward. He had a passion for travel and did so extensively. Milan loved to socialize, and everyone was always welcomed to his home to enjoy a glass of wine. He maintained strong ties to the Slovenian community in and around Toronto. In a committed move 3 years ago, Milan left his 27 acre property in Brooklin to move out West to the Rocky Mountains - Banff, AB, to be closer to his daughter and her family, for his life’s next chapter. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held in the Spring of 2025 in Brooklin, Ontario. Messages of condolence may be forwarded to the family by visiting bowvalleyfuneral.ca M
