Hockey’s Original Six

$45 HARDCOVER, GREYSTONE BOOKS

Hockey’s Original Six is a beautiful collection of old time images created by the legendary Harold Barkley (1920-2003), who was the Toronto Star’s leading sports photographer from 1942 until the early 1970s.

Barkley pioneered the use of strobe photography to capture the NHL’s pre-expansion period, and the results of his innovation rival the quality of current professional photographers.

Barkley documented the golden era of the sport and his work returns the reader to the classic days of characters such as Maurice ‘Rocket’ Richard, Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull, Terry Sawchuk, Tim Horton and Jean Béliveau, who wrote the book’s foreword.

When you think ‘classic hockey photo’ you likely imagine one of Barkley’s beautifully-illuminated masterpieces.

Hockey’s Original Six boasts more than 100 photographs of the Maple Leafs, Canadiens, Bruins, Rangers, Blackhawks and Red Wings.

This book truly is a treat for hockey fans young and old.

Reflections 2011

$27.95 SOFT COVER, GREYSTONE BOOKS

Reflections 2011 tells the tale of the 2010/2011 Stanley Cup season through more than 150 exciting photos that expose every angle of the game imaginable.

From the wide format front cover image of Alexandre Burrows of the Vancouver Canucks leaping high above the ice in front of Chicago Blackhawks’ goaltender Marty Turco, to the celebrations of the victorious Boston Bruins, Reflections 2011 chronicles the season with striking photography.

An introduction describes the high points of the season, and a year-end stats section provides for temporary distraction to all the show stopping photos. But this book is simply all about the pictures.

The sport’s biggest names, including Stamkos, Perry, Thomas, Sedin and Fleury grace the pages in a must-see collection that follows the year from beginning to end.

The modern icons of the game are seen doing battle from a perspective that transports the reader onto the ice of an NHL arena.
