Less than a week after introducing a private member's bill to curtail coal mining along the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains, the Private Bills and Private Member’s Public Bills Committee unanimously approved it moving forward to the legislature.

“My stance remains the same, but I do not believe we need to go back and close restaurants, or shutdown many of these businesses a third time. I do want to be very clear that every Albertan does need to follow those restrictions that are in place and hopefully we can have our best summer.”

“The house was actually saved, that was an awesome job from a firefighter from Nakoda [Fire] and Redwood Meadows,” said Rocky View Deputy Fire Chief Gary Barnett. “They stopped it from being lost. It was pretty brutal on the edge of that ravine with the wind and the fire coming up.”

Miranda Rosin, the MLA for Banff-Kananaskis, was one of 16 UCP elected officials who signed a letter in opposition to the recently announced provincial public health restrictions.

As of 4:41 p.m., Cochrane RCMP estimated it would take two to three hours for Highway 1A to reopen after a grass fire near the Wildcat Hills Gas Plant caused reduced visibility in the area.

A grass fire along the 1A Highway near Ghost Lake has resulted in the evacuation of two homes, a local gas station and the Wildcat Hills Gas Plant. RCMP are advising motorists to avoid the area.
