The quest for a good breakfast is a noble one, but let me save you some time and energy by recommending The Grande Kitchen + Bar, recipient of our coveted Best Breakfast AND Best Brunch in the Best of the Bow 2024 Awards (plus 8 other awards)! Yes, a lot has changed in the valley (and beyond!) this year, but this spot remains a consistent staple for all things fried, poached and scrambled.
Tucked away in the Grande Rockies Resort, put The Grande Kitchen + Bar on your map. A sleek dining room and a colourful breakfast entree await you! Truly, though, my crab cake eggs benny was one of the most attractive dishes I have had of a morning! With lashings of vivid brown butter Hollandaise, served aside a skewer of fresh fruit with a side of signature chips, this dish was the perfect blend of pretty and delicious, which really sets The Grande apart. Did I add a side of avocado? Yes I did, because it ‘ain’t breakfast without a little ‘cado in my opinion!
If your dining partner loves you, they may well grant you a couple of mouthfuls of their dish too. Luckily I am indeed loved, or so the stolen forkfuls of wedge potatoes speared with Montreal cheese curds from my boyfriend’s wakey bakey bowl told me. Food is a love language and if you love breakfast then, oh baby, you’ll get along just fine with The Grande Kitchen + Bar.
How do you know you need to return to a restaurant? When you’re “oooh”ing over so many menu items it’s difficult to choose, knowing you can (reasonably) only fit one in your body! The banana bread French toast with English cream, and the crepes with custard, berry coulis, banana, pistachio, almond, coconut, and fresh whip were both winking at me from the menu. When I say (wistfully) “ah, next time” I mean it. I have unfinished business at The Grande!
The cosy eatery also serves lunch and dinner, with special offers across the week. Rib Mondays, Burger Tuesdays, Wine Wednesdays, Pasta Thursdays and a daily $6 drink and appetizer Happy Hour between 2-5 means there’s always something for you at The Grande Kitchen + Bar. What’s typical of the later menu? Think schnitzel, mom’s lasagne, burgers, nacho stacks, wings, striploin and pizzas after 5pm.
Comfort food is always welcome, but comfort food executed well is worth its weight in gold, which is why The Grande Kitchen + Bar is now on my heavy rotation for best spots to eat in Canmore.
