Town party set for November

With the holiday season rapidly approaching, there may be no better time to combine fundraising and seasonal shopping than a town party slated for Nov. 19. Black & White with a Dash of Splash takes place from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.

With the holiday season rapidly approaching, there may be no better time to combine fundraising and seasonal shopping than a town party slated for Nov. 19.

Black & White with a Dash of Splash takes place from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Silvertip Pavilion. All proceeds will go to the Rocky Mountain Adaptive Sports Centre (RMASC).

The evening should have something for everyone, said organizer Micheline Lambert-McFadden. “We have more than 40 silent auction items, we’ll have live music by TR3 and Sully’s Garage and a light evening meal.

“We’ll also have shuttles running from Stonewaters and Shoes t’ Boot and back.”

RMASC is a non-profit society with the primary aim of providing individuals with disabilities the chance to access sporting and recreational activities. RMASC aids in enabling children and adults with any physical, intellectual, cognitive, or developmental impairment to participate in sports and adventure activities.

Lambert-McFadden is well familiar with RMASC’s work, as her son Cullen (autism and ADHD) has benefitted from the group’s program for three years.

“They’ve been hugely successful,” she said. “They have a lot of great volunteers and because of them, my son is a black diamond downhill skier.

“The volunteers are very dedicated community people who freely give their time and they need to be recognized. Proceeds from this party will be used for equipment and to enhance and grow programs like kayaking and tennis. They already offer programs for skiing, golf and swimming (15 mountain-based sports).

“We all participate in sports in the area, but there are people living or visiting the Bow Valley who have special needs.”

Items available in the silent auction include a town bike from Rebound Cycle, furniture from Stonewaters, gift certificates, clothing and jewelry.

“The community has really stepped up by donating items,” said Lambert-McFadden. “Town parties are always so well attended; they really bring the community together and with the theme of Black & White with a Dash of Splash, it’s good for everybody, from casual dress to fancy.”

Tickets for the Black & White party are $30 (drinks are $5) and are available at Stonewaters Home Elements and Shoes t’ Boot on Main Street. Only 250 tickets will be sold.
