Canmore RCMP have started investigating a 25-year-old missing person case.
William Kwiatek, a.k.a. Bill, or Beleslov Kwiatek was last seen in 1988 hitchhiking through Canmore, but that information has only been made available recently to local police to investigate.
“The reason it came to us in Canmore is this is the last place anybody had even seen him and that is why we got the file, ” said Sgt. Ryan Currie with the local detachment. “We are trying to figure out anything we can about it.
“The only information we can substantiate is he was last seen hitchhiking in Canmore in July of 1988. ”
Currie said the family of the 43-year-old Kwiatek originally reported him missing in 1988 in Hinton and Calgary, but didn’t follow up until recently when they reported him missing in Hinton.
He added Kwiatek at the time of his disappearance was working construction. Kwiatek is described as 180 cm tall, 100 kg, brown hair and eyes, wearing glasses. He had a scar on his head - six to eight drill holes from a halo brace, a partially amputated left ring finder, a tattoo on his left hand of the star of David and the word “love ” written across his knuckles, while on his right hand he had the work “hate ” across his knuckles.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the local detachment at 403-678-5519 or through Crime Stoppers www.tipsubmit.com or at 1-800-222-8477.
