LAKE LOUISE – An investigation is underway into the cause of a fire that destroyed several vehicles at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise parkade on Feb. 8.
The fire investigator was on scene on Thursday afternoon, but the fire is not believed to be suspicious at this point.
Lake Louise Fire Department was quick to the scene to put out the fire, which broke out at about 10:30 p.m.
Based on photos provided by Alberta RCMP, many of the vehicles that caught on fire had only the frames remaining.
“At approximately 10:30 p.m. last evening it was reported that a vehicle on the second level of the hotel parkade was on fire. A number of vehicles sustained fire damage, and the cause of the fire is not known at this time,” said Anastasia Martin-Stilwell, regional director of public relations for Fairmont in an email.
“Our priority throughout this situation was to ensure the safety of our guests and staff, and we are thankful no one was injured.”
Martin-Stilwell said the hotel is fully cooperating with the authorities who are currently conducting an investigation.
“With an active investigation underway, we are unable to comment further at this time,” she said.
