LAKE LOUISE – One man was killed when two pedestrians were hit by a vehicle Thursday morning on the Trans-Canada Highway, just outside of Lake Louise.

The police said their initial investigation found a man and a woman were hit on the side of the road by a truck at about 9:15 a.m.

The 39-year-old Ontario man had severe injuries and attempts to resuscitate him on the scene were unsuccessful, the RCMP said.

The woman was transported to an area hospital with injuries.

Lake Louise Fire-Rescue, STARS and the Lake Louise and Banff RCMP were called to the scene for the motor vehicle collision.

STARS was originally called to the scene, but were stood down when they were no longer medically required, a spokesperson said

Roam Transit also announced on Twitter to expect delays with the Lake Louise Express 8X, the Lake Louise Scenic 8S and the Johnston Canyon 9 busses.

The police are asking people to avoid the scene with traffic on the west side down to one lane. The east lanes were unaffected by the collision, Banff RCMP said.

Traffic is expected to be reduced for several hours as the investigation continues, the RCMP said.
