One person is in hospital in life-threatening condition following a medical episode on a Canmore trail earlier this afternoon, police said.

CANMORE – A man sent to hospital following a medical event on a Canmore trail June 1 has died.

EMS, Canmore RCMP and Kananaskis Mountain Rescue were called to respond to the event around 2:30 p.m.

"The incident occurred on Johnny's Trail, right where the Montane Traverse crosses over," said Jeremy Mackenzie, mountain rescue specialist with Kananaskis Mountain Rescue.

AHS EMS spokesperson Adam Loria confirmed the person involved was an adult man and was transported to Canmore General Hospital.

The man was brought from the trail to an ambulance staging site off Palliser Trail, across from an off-leash dog park via Alpine Helicopter long line.

It was first believed he was involved in a mountain biking accident, but Canmore RCMP later confirmed it to be a medical episode that was called in by bystanders on the trail.
