The Bow Valley is unique because it has two high seasons. The summer and the winter are filled with beautiful sights to see, incredible experiences, and endless sports and activities to enjoy. From skiing and snowboarding to snowshoeing and sightseeing, you can't go wrong when you're outdoors in the wintertime in the beautiful Canadian Rockies. While you're likely to stumble upon an activity every way you turn, we've decided to make it even easier. Here are a few remarkable things to do in the Bow Valley this winter.

Try Fat Biking

If you have yet to hear of fat biking, it's basically a form of biking that you can do in the wintertime. The tires are thick, so you have more control, allowing you to enjoy a bike ride in the dead of winter. You can take it easy and go for a leisurely ride around town, or take it up a notch and hit the trails. There are several places to rent fat bikes in the Bow Valley, so you don't have to worry about a big, fat (get it?) investment for a day of riding.

Play a Game of Shinny

Ice skating is a quintessential winter pass time in the Bow Valley, but you can go one step further and make it even more Canadian. Lace-up a pair of hockey skates and play a casual hockey game with your friends or a group of strangers who are already playing a game. There are many skating destinations around Canmore, Banff, and Lake Louise, so you can pick your favourite. If you don't have skates, there are plenty of places to rent, too!

Hit the Slopes

This one is a no-brainer. The Bow Valley and the surrounding area are absolute ski hill gold mines. You're in luck if you've come from far away to hit the slopes. If you've never skied or snowboarded before, why not sign up for a lesson? Each hill is different and has something unique to offer, so do some research and pick the one that strikes your fancy. We promise you really can't go wrong.

Visit the Kananaskis Nordic Spa

The Kananaskis Nordic Spa is the perfect place to spend a cold day. There are several tubs with warm and hot water to soak in and a cold plunge pool. There are also saunas and steam rooms for you to enjoy. It's the ultimate way to relax and refresh, surrounded by the gorgeous scenery in Kananaskis.

If you love fresh air, beautiful destinations, and moving your body but are not into the more extreme sports, snowshoeing is ideal for you. You can select one of the lovely hiking trails in the Bow Valley and strap on some snowshoes to experience it in the winter. If you're renting shoes from a local outfitter, they will surely have tips on where to go.

Go Ice Climbing

Ice climbing is quite an adventure if you want something more extreme. There are many tons of guided tours and lessons for you to sign up for. Don't worry if you're a beginner. You're sure to find something that will work for you.
