BANFF – Eleven Banff Community High School students were awarded the Caribou Award for their academic and extracurricular activities.
The award recognizes their hard work, positive influence and personal best during the school year and were bestowed on the students at their June 29 graduation ceremony. The award comes with $1,000 for each student at the Wim and Nancy Pauw Foundation.
“I was really honoured to receive the Caribou Award from the Wim and Nancy Pauw Foundation,” Ryan Lee, one of this year’s Caribou Awards recipients, said in a release.
“High school is a long road and this year especially was pretty challenging. It is rewarding to be recognized by my teachers for the hard work I put in. And the financial award will really help with my university expenses next year.”
The awards are given each year to students who are hard working, engaged, a committed volunteer, a trustworthy friend and have shown determination and resiliency to attain success.
“Every year the BCHS staff team nominates students who reflect and exemplify the Caribou philosophy – namely students with amazing attitudes, a willingness to work hard and a commitment to be the best they can be,” Cathy Geisler, the executive director for the Wim & Nancy Pauw Foundation, said in a media release.
“We are thrilled to be able to recognize these students and support them in their future endeavours.”
The awards are selected by the BCHS staff and a representative from the Wim & Nancy Pauw Foundation representative.
“As a school, one of our primary goals is to inspire students to become their best selves while they learn to discover and follow their personal hopes and dreams,” Mike Shoemaker, the BCHS assistant principal said in the release. “We are grateful that student recognition through the Caribou Awards and the Wim and Nancy Pauw Foundation provides recipients with both financial support as students continue their paths towards their dreams and an affirmation that their dedication to our community has been observed.”
