BANFF – Banff RCMP is asking the public for help after a woman was sexually assaulted on Monday (March 11).

The 25-year-old female was walking in the 200 block of Otter Street, between Caribou and Wolf Street, at approximately 1:15 a.m. when she was struck, knocked to the ground and groped by the suspect.

The female fought off the suspect, who ran away in an unknown direction.

Given the suspect attacked from behind and ran, the only description known of the attacker is he was wearing a thick, black jacket and smelled like cigarettes and liquor.

The incident matches two other similar unsolved sexual assaults from October 2017 and October 2018 when women were attacked in the late night hours. It is unknown if these crimes were committed by the same suspect or are related.

Banff RCMP is encouraging any victims or witnesses to come forward with information they might have, or report any similar attacks that might have occurred.

Contact the Banff RCMP at 403-431-6600, or if you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
