A policy change to allow free parking in Canmore from Monday to Thursday would have benefits far surpassing the foregone revenue. It could run from Oct. 15 to Dec. 20 and from Jan. 6 to May 30.
Locals could plan their shopping without the hassle of registering, more visitors would support the shoulder season, and businesses might survive until the next tourist season.
I get that we become quickly addicted to revenue streams, and wonder what we would actually lose, but the benefits to community, hospitality, and industry would far outweigh the extra money sitting in our reserves.
