For many in the Bow Valley, libraries like the Banff Public Library are a connection to the cultural history both of our community and communities around the world.
To let the community show their appreciation and support, the Banff Public Library will be holding their sixth annual Love Your Library Gala fundraiser.
The event, held on Friday, April 28, from 7:30 to 11 p.m., will involve silent auctions, food and drinks, as well as a live skill auction.
Volunteers are auctioning off their skills in photography and pizza making are two of the several skills being auctioned off to the guests.
“We have a variety of different talents,” said Sarah McCormack, the director of the Banff Public Library. “It’s going to be a great night.”
For the $25 cost of admission, guests receive wines and snacks, as well as an India Session Ale provided by the Banff Ave. Brewing Company.
The gala will also feature live music and a caricature artist, who will be drawing event goers in exchange for donations.
“You really can’t get that kind of deal anywhere else in Banff,” said McCormack.
This year’s gala is expected to bring in between 150 and 200 guests, and proceeds will be going towards what McCormack called a “collection injection,” which is meant to enhance the library’s collection of physical materials.
A portion of the proceeds will go to increase the libraries collection of books by Canadian authors, to tie in with Canada 150.
Money from the fundraiser goes to a different cause each year, with it having gone towards children and youth programming at the library in 2016.
