Museum needs funding
Editor:
To Blake Richards, MP, Wild Rose:
Dear Blake, is there an opportunity to include the Buffalo Nations Museum in your Economic Recovery Plan as an adjunct to the Restorative Plan taking place in Banff for the Cave & Basin?
The museum is an icon in Banff and has for years been unable to raise funds for a new roof. The exhibits are now at risk of water damage and visitors must walk around plastic buckets in areas where the rain comes in.
In my view, it makes no sense to have visitors see the magnificent murals done by Roland Rollinmud at the Cave & Basin and then have to walk around buckets in the museum.
Prime Minister Harper, at the recent gathering of First Nations, declared some changes will take place between our relationship with Aboriginal Peoples in Canada. The millions of dollars proposed for the Jasper Walkway compared to $150,000 needed for a roof on a museum operated by First Nations is a symptom of how native people are viewed in Canada.
I am bringing this to your attention, because the museum is seen by visitors from all over the world and leave deeply impressed by its uniqeness. To lose this part of Banff’s aboriginal culture and history would be a great tragedy for all.

Banff

Good point Eileen, and well taken but it should be remembered that the money going into that contraption at Sunwapta, is private money not taxpayers, unless I'm mistaken. Parks Canada and all governments Liberal, Conservative it doesn't matter our history is not important to them. Look at the zoo Banff has become and the lack of care for iconic old buildings etc. Parks Canada don't care niether do most people in the general population. I would suggest that the Indians don't give a dam either because you don't see any of them in the news doing anything about the Luxton museum which honors their past.
