With five candidates across the Banff-Cochrane riding vying to become the next provincial Progressive Conservative candidate, the party is providing an opportunity for people to meet and greet them.

Dale Fedorchuk, chairman of the nomination committee, said the event will be held at Rafter Six Ranch on Saturday (Jan. 21) from 1-4 p.m. and all five candidates for the nomination will be there.

As of noon Wednesday (Jan. 18) when the nomination period closed, Jon Bjorgum, Ron Casey, John Fitzsimmons, Truper McBride and Rob Seeley are the official candidates.

“I think it is important that as many people as possible know that not only is this election taking place on Jan. 28, but also there will be an opportunity to meet the nominees on Jan. 21,” Fedorchuk said.

Fedorchuk said the constituency is lucky to have so many high calibre candidates.

“I am really pleased, we have a very robust nomination for this constituency,” he said. “I am pleased to see so many qualified people have entered the race.”

Those interested in voting on Jan. 28 can attend polling stations in Canmore at the Holiday Inn, Banff at the Banff Caribou Lodge, Cochrane at Frank Wills Memorial Hall and in Bragg Creek at the community centre between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Voting is open to Progressive Conservative party members. Memberships are $5 and can be purchased at the polling stations on the day of the vote, online or from any of the five candidates. Once a membership is purchased, voting can be done on Jan. 28.

You must reside within the constituency, be a Canadian citizen, over 16 years old and have two pieces of identification.

Those planning on attending the nominee meet and greet are asked to RSVP with Rafter Six by calling 1-888-267-2624.
