Shirley Gibson Sept. 1, 1930 – Jan. 12, 2024

Shirley Jean Gibson (nee Brigden), passed away peacefully in the early morning of January 12, 2024, at Banff Mineral Springs Hospital; her family was with her. Shirley was 93 years old at the time of her passing and was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Brian Gibson and her sisters Betty Lett and Arlene Stevenson. She is survived by her three adult children and their families:

Brent (Farideh) Gibson and their adult children, Hannah and Shireen; Lorie Gibson (Bill Bagshaw), and Lorie’s adult children Josh (Sarah) Friesen, and their children Sasha, Isabeau and Arthur; Cole Friesen (Jen McLean), and Hillary Friesen; and Glenn Gibson (Stacy Murkin).

Shirley was born and raised in Calgary and she and Brian lived mostly in Alberta as they raised their children and enjoyed their lives together. Shirley was a registered nurse for the first years of her marriage and then took on the role of fulltime mother when Brent was born. She and Brian were active members of the Calgary Winter Club and as the children grew and moved out, Shirley and Brian were able to realize a dream of purchasing a condominium in Canmore which became her and Brian’s fulltime home. Here they enjoyed the Canmore seniors community, hiking and cross country skiing. Shirley spent the last five years of her life at Bow Valley Seniors Assisted Living Residence.

Shirley was a loving wife, mother, sister and friend, she will be greatly missed by all of us.

Shirley did not wish to have a memorial service, the immediate family will gather to have a celebration of her life at a later date.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital Foundation.
